Back in the '90's, life was going just fine for young Karen. From a small town in Wyoming, her family knew just about everyone. It was a safer time to live back then, and she and her siblings played outside all day. She knew just about everyone in her neighborhood, and there were many kids around her age to play with. They would ride their bikes around the dirt road, swing on the set that was nearby and have water fights in the yard. She lived a happy, normal life; until she started to experience some strange things with her body. Concerned, her parents took her to doctors as time went on, but the doctors didn't seem too concerned, giving such excuses as puberty and growing up. Any tests they did were coming back normal, so there was no need to worry. Mom worried anyway, and after Karen started losing her eyesight, the lame explanations weren't going to cut it anymore! Mom needed answers!

Karen has always wanted to share her story with any who would listen. She wrote this short memoir to support and inspire those who also might find themselves in difficult situations. She also wrote to hopefully entertain a bit, as she shared what she was thinking as a 12-year-old girl. This has been a long road for her, as she used notes she'd written down over the years, as well as a journal kept by her mom.
