My Life Story
Chris Hawley
Writing and rereading these thirty years of my life has been an immensely rewarding experience, sometimes bringing tears to my eyes. In those years, full of life and eager to explore whatever can be explored, I believe that Margarita and I lived life to the full, and tried to give our children a great start to life. I have come to appreciate what a wonderful family I was blessed with. We made the most of the wonderful opportunities we had, for employment, travel and many friends. Out of those thirty years, seventeen of them were spent in Kenya, and Kenya has given us the most exciting and memorable times. I am now at the stage of my life when I no longer want a life of travel and adventure, but I have enjoyed reliving these memories, about which I have written. But almost this entire story was written more than ten years ago. Had I left it until now, most of it would have disappeared into the depths of the subconscious.
My grandchildren have the opportunity to experience life as we did. My only concern is my fear for the future; climate change, which is threatening to destroy the world, and the looming threat of World War III, where nuclear war is a terrifying possibility, with those unbelievably powerful weapons in the hands of unscrupulous leaders. Having lived almost the whole of my life in a time of peace, for which I am so grateful, I am saddened to imagine my young family living in a rapidly deteriorating situation, about which little is being done. Let us hope that a miracle appears on the horizon!
