Death and Service

There are over 800 servicemen and women from the First World War buried in Somerset. Taking in more than forty graveyards, this second volume of the Death and Service series unearths the lives of 165 more of the soldiers, sailors and airmen laid to rest in the county.

In these pages are stories of boys as young as 15 and men old enough to be their grandfathers, all of whom stepped up to serve their King and their Country. These are tales of love, heroism and devotion; of heartbreak and loss; of people making the ultimate sacrifice on land, at sea and in the air, sometimes without even leaving Britain's shores.

From the peaceful churchyards and cemeteries of Somerset, Death and Service Volume II brings the names on the gravestones to life again, more than a century after they were laid to rest.
