A precious account of an interesting life. Eric Walker like many others boys born during World War II constructed Spitfire models, got lost in the fog as a scout and was excited about the first car of his parents. But already in childhood he was an exceptional kid with broader interests. He then started to keep honeybees and he won an early prize for 'six brown eggs' as a very young chicken and rabbit farmer. Despite his great interest in nature and the environment he abandoned this career to study medicine. These memoirs are fascinating in many ways. For the older generation, they revive memories long lost. To the young readership they illustrate how dramatically different life was up to some seventy years ago. (Robert Steffen)
