For quite some time it has been obvious that the university system requires a thorough re-evaluation. There is a considerable amount of dissatisfaction, not only among students, but also among faculty and other interested individuals and society at large. This has already been addressed through two volumes of a work. Excellence in University Leadership and Management Case Histories describes initiatives in 16 different universities designed to improve their effectiveness and efficiency in facing new challenges. A total of 10 of these universities are in European countries and 6 of them are in the Americas. These case histories address a wide range of subjects including teaching and learning to the development of new universities.
