This book details battle actions and traces war heroes back to civilian life, exploring each individual’s motivation and describing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder sufferings of several. This is a unique book about heroes of the Second World War. It dramatically describes the battle actions of 22 warriors who won outstanding gallantry awards but reaches out far beyond the bare battle narrative. In addition to some who won a supreme award, such as the VC, it also includes other lesser known men who achieved a considerable aggregate of valour over a long period. The writing is spiced by the realisation that the author was in at least one case there at the scene, or was at similar scenes, or had developed a post-war friendship with some of those featured. This book will help to reinvigorate the memories of the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice at our most difficult hour. AUTHOR: In 1944 Ken Tout, known for books such as Tank! and A Fine Night for Tanks , landed on the Normandy beaches as a Sherman tank gunner and later commander. After further service in Palestine he entered theological college and worked with charities and development agencies such as Oxfam, the Salvation Army, HelpAge International and the United Nations Ageing unit.
