The official vita of Peter of Verona by Friar Thomas Agni of Lentini from the mid-1260s is here presented with a critical edition and translation for the first time; all extant witnesses to the text have been consulted. After his assassination in 1252, Peter of Verona was rapidly proclaimed a martyr, and his Vita testifies to the far-reaching extension of his cult, spreading out from Italy and Southern France to reach western Iberia and Ireland, as is attested by the miracles attributed to his intercession. Donald Prudlo has previously provided the first edition of the Summa contra hereticos attributed to Peter Martyr, published as Medium Aevum Monographs new series XXXVIII (2020). Cover image: detail from Pedro Berruguete, San Pedro Martir (1490s), Museo del Prado.
