Kendra Blackmore’s half Iranian daughter Ariana (Rani) undergoes an identity crisis which results in her cutting of all contact with her family. Her son Adam, a doctor, explains it’s a normal part of development and that it wouldn’t last. Sick with worry and desperate to understand why her home loving daughter would do this, the hyper- rationale Kendra turns to clairvoyants and psychic hotlines for answers.
Her growing obsession with the supernatural turns Kendra away from her field of conventional psychology and pushes her to the edge of irrationality and denial. Living in a world of facts, logic and rituals her brilliant but eccentric husband David is unable to provide her with emotional support. His sudden death, her growing relationship with the unusual Marco and the prospect of becoming a grandmother brings Kendra back to earth. But where is Rani?
