Cardinal Wolsey was Henry VIII’s chief minister for some fifteen years - during that period, he negotiated treaties, organised military campaigns, planned the great spectacle of the Field of Cloth of Gold, and managed Henry’s business in Parliament. He also found time to found a school and a college. He was loved by the King, but hated by everyone else, so when he failed to gain the King’s divorce, there was no-one to speak for him.
