Kind of Green is a jazz photo book, but with an Irish angle. The author accompanied his jazz journalist brother to a variety of festivals and gigs, lenses at the ready, between 1986 and 1990. This book is a chronicle of their adventures, in word and image. It is also the story of an Irish jazz magazine, JazzNews International, 'widely considered to be the best English-language jazz publication in the world' when it was published. This book captures the essence of jazz. It contains over 150 never-before-seen images of some of the all-time greats of the jazz world -Miles Davis, George Benson, John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Cab Calloway and many, many more! This book is a time-machine for lovers of jazz and good music. Note: This edition is identical to the book of the same name which can be purchased on the Blurb website, except for the price and the ISBN. It should also be noted that a digital version of Kind of Green can be purchased and downloaded on Blurb. Trevor Hodgett, journalist at Jazz Journal, Jazzwise etc: "Martin Connolly's photos and text powerfully convey the unbounded passion of a jazz fanatic, and the magic of the music." Walter Kolosky, jazz journalist and author: "a heartfelt homage to his jazz journalist brother, Jim, who introduced him to the wonderful world of jazz. It should be of great interest to any jazz lover." Michael Pronko, jazz journalist at Jazz in Japan: "Connolly's fantastic collection of photos makes it clear that photographers are crucial to jazz culture... This collection lets us live the shows anew." Debbie Burke, award-winning jazz author: "Not just a slice in time but a slice of jazz at the tail end of its mid-century intensity. Great stories here and for their behind-the-scenes insights, worth the read."
