The Godwits Fly

The Godwits Fly is a highly autobiographical coming-of-age novel by one of New Zealand’s most celebrated poets. It follows the development of Eliza Hannay as she negotiates growing up in early twentieth century Wellington. The ever inquisitive Eliza encounters love, family tension, a love of poetry, and, like the migrating godwits described in the forward, an inherited pull towards the motherland, England.
