The journey was prompted by the author’s discovery of a series of letters addressed to Boswell’s wife Margaret, and read as if serial adulterer Boswell may have been a biter who was himself unknowingly bitten. The letters accompanied Campbell on his own tour of Scotland, exactly following the route of the two men but powered by the author’s newly acquired bus pass.
