A Place for Peace marks the 30th anniversary of the Glencree Centre for Reconciliation. The book features politicians from Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK, exparamilitaries, victims of the troubles , church leaders, Glencree staff and volunteers and others who describe the remarkable impact that Glencree has had on them personally and on the peace process in Northern Ireland more generally. Glencree defines its mission as being to provide services and facilities which are expressly devoted to the building of peace and reconciliation within and between communities throughout Ireland, Britain and beyond . It does this in Ireland and internationally through political dialogue workshops, alternative dispute resolution, conflict studies, summer schools, and workshops and specific programmes for victims/survivors (LIVE), excombatants, churches, women, schools, young people etc. The Glencree Centre for Reconciliation has made an enormous contribution to the peace process in Ireland, as well as our understanding of how to encourage dialogue and reconciliation in conflicts of all kinds. As HRH Prince Charles notes in his foreword, as the violence [in Ireland and Britain] careered forward it wreaked havoc, but over the lonely years places like Glencree have never ever given up. They are the quiet places that painstakingly foster understanding, hope and love .
