Strengthening the Capacity of NGOs: Cases of Small Enterprise Development Agencies in Africa

Northern NGOs involved in small enterprise development programmes are increasingly working through local partner NGOs in Africa and elsewhere. Concerns about the performance and capacity of Southern NGOs, however, have led many Northern NGOs to seek ways of strengthening their partners that extend beyond pure technical support and address underlying organizational weaknesses. This practical book examines some organizational weaknesses of a range of enterprise development agencies and considers how these constraints can be addressed. Although the research has been conducted in Africa the principles evolved are of universal interest and significance to all development practitioners.
