Memoirs of the American Academy in Rome v. 43 & 44
The first volume of the Memoirs of the American Academy in Rome was published in 1915 and consecutive volumes were published annually until 1980, with the exception of the years between the two world wars. Recently published volumes demonstrate the Academy’s dedication to the continuation of this series. Representing the interests of the American Academy in Rome, its fellows and residents, and the larger international community that congregates around its excellent library and facilities, the Memoirs series (MAAR) presents ambitious and substantial articles in the fields represented by the American Academy, including but not limited to Roman archaeology and topography, ancient history, Latin literature, and classical art history. Among the eight articles included in Volume 43/44 are Interior Staircases in Western Greek Temples, Look Who’s Laughing: Humor in Tavern Painting as an Index of Class and Acculturation, and Greek War Booty at Luna and the Afterlife of Manius Acilius Glabrio. Malcolm Bell, III, is Professor, McIntire Department of Art, University of Virginia. He specializes in Greek art.
