This substantial new volume by Graham Mort selects work from five of his published books of poetry. From early lyrics inspired by Seamus Heaney’s rigorous sense of form and his feeling for the natural world, Mort soon developed his own distinctive narrative style that encompasses a sharp eye for detail, an acute grasp of character, and a wonderful ability to evoke atmosphere and situation. There is also a moral heft here, a concern for the consequences and implications of our behaviors. His first full-length collection, A Country on Fire , won a major Eric Gregory award and a recent book, Circular Breathing , was a Poetry Book Society recommendation.
