Primary English Curriculum Guide

This study guide is written for students, inexperienced and returning teachers, whether or not they are undertaking a formal course of pre- or post-experience training. It covers the teaching of all aspects of English in the primary school, including reading and writing different genres and for different purposes, speaking and listening, and drama. Informed by the National Literacy Strategy and Curriculum 2000, the text is firmly based in the classroom, helping readers to make real links between theory, practical guidance and their school experience. Reference is made to key texts and other resources. Themes are presented in an interactive way, with many activities to be carried out in school or higher education settings. The emphasis is on lessons to include all pupils and readers are encouraged to analyse problems, assess pupils’ progress and evaluate their own teaching.
