Foreign aid to developing countries often favours inappropriate technologies, in spite of promising alternative approaches to development in recent years. This collection of essays reviews major policies promoting appropriate technology and identifies positive programmes of action which could be instituted at a national level. Such changes are designed to be an attempt to remove the hostility towards appropriate technology prevalent in many countries and the bias in favour of large-scale capital-intensive industry.
