Knebworth Through Time

Thanks to its world-renowned music festivals and the connections of its leading family, the Lyttons, to the heart of Britain’s political and literary life, Knebworth is the most famous village in Hertfordshire. Its history stretches back to the Domesday Book. Just the church of the original village survives today in Knebworth Park, and the successor of this early settlement is today the picturesque village known as Old Knebworth.The past 120 years have seen a thriving ‘new’ Knebworth grow up alongside the Great North Road and East Coast main line. All three phases of Knebworth’s history are illustrated in these ninety-six pages of historical and contemporary photographs, including Knebworth’s two neighbouring villages, Datchworth and Woolmer Green.
