In this book, first published privately in 1947, the way of life of the old time windmiller and the workings of the windmill are described by a miller’s son. The author Herbert Harrison grew up at Sprowston Mill, Norwich, in the late 19th Century. He explains clearly and approachably the construction, mechanisms and workings of windmills as well as the hard work and responsibilities of their owners and operators, who provided vital services to their local communities. Illustrator G. R. Nisbet’s beautiful sketches and technical drawings accompany the text. With five photographs of typical English mill types.
