In an effort to escape the stresses of work, Alec and Naomi take a winter holiday in the Somerset Levels. There they encounter local eccentric Eddy Thame, a historian and metal detectorist. A few days after their arrival, Eddy is found dead and, reluctantly, Alec and Naomi become involved in the hunt for his killer.
