When Little Bee is born, there are so many things he doesn’t know about, and he has lots and lots of questions. His mother is always there for him and answers as many as she can. One day, she takes Little Bee and all his brothers and sisters to an old oak tree, where they make their new hive. Suddenly, Little Bee can learn all about new things by himself!
On his adventures, he learns how to find food, how to treat other animals, how to show other bees where the food is and many more things, and all the time he remembers what his mother has told him: ‘Just be, Little Bee, just be’. Soon, though, Little Bee will grow up - what will happen to his family then? Will they all stay at the hive? Little Bee is about to find out.
Anne Unsworth spent thirty-five years teaching in primary schools in the Oldham and Rochdale areas. In 2007 she retired at deputy headteacher of SS Aidan and Oswald’s School. She continues to work as a supply teacher, sharing her love of books and encouraging people to write for fun.
