The son of a legendary American military artist, Richard Caton Woodville ( the Second) studied the art of war in Prussia and Russia before settling in England and beginning a long career as a war artists and reporter for the Illustrated London News and other magazines. He reported on, and drew and painted, many of the wars of the later 19th century - including the Afghan, Zulu and Boer Wars, and recreated scenes of the Napoleonic and Crimean Wars. This beautiful album shows the full colour plates that Woodville was commissioned to paint of Britain’s infant Territorial Army in 1908. The branches of the TA depicted in fighting and garrison mode include the Yeomanry, Artillery, Engineers and Infantry, along with the Army Service and Medical Corps. This Naval & Military Press original publication is a book to treasure for anyone interested in the TA and the British Army on the eve of the Great War, as depicted by one of the world’s greatest military artists.
