The winter usually passes uneventfully for Mabel Smith’s clan once they are settled for the winter in a field belonging to a sympathetic landlord. But this winter is different. Rosalind, Mabel’s beautiful half-gypsy granddaughter, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, has many admirers. Joe, Rosalind’s cousin and childhood friend, loves her but so too does the unpleasant Ely, who plots to get Joe banished by the clan. In the course of a wild gypsy party, Joe is disgraced, though Rosalind is convinced he is innocent. But even if she can escape Ely, does Rosalind’s future lie with the gypsies?
A Turbulent Winter is a gripping and beautifully told story, but more than that, it is also a sympathetic portrayal of gypsy life and the riches of gypsy culture.
Born in Coventry, Lyn Grant has lived most of her life in Brighton and from childhood enjoyed writing and art as a hobby. She has been a volunteer worker for charities for many years, including the Martlets Hospice. This is her first published novel, and she hopes the sales of it will benefit the hospice.
