The Code of the Woosters
P. G. Wodehouse
Only Jeeves can save the day when Bertie Wooster lands in this much of a chaotic muddle: Bertie is headed for Totleigh Towers to patch up a rupture in the engagement between his friend Gussie Fink-Nottle and Madeline Bassett, when Aunt Dahlia instructs him to visit an antique shop and drive down the price of some silverware. When the desirable piece turns out to have been bought already by Madeline’s father, Sir Watkyn, Aunt Dahlia’s demands on Bertie skyrocket - he must steal the cow-creamer. Added to this fuss, Bertie finds himself entangled with the troublesome ward of Sir Watkyn’s, Miss Stiffy Byng, who wants help marrying Bertie’s friend Pinker. Meanwhile Gussie needs a hand recovering the notebook in which he has detailed his future father-in-law’s every failing. Bertie can’t say no; it’s the Woosters’ code: ‘Never let a pal down’.
