Dead Souls; Spring ‘71
Arthur Adamov
Dead Souls is based on the satirical novel by Gogol. Set in nineteenth-century Russia, it follows the arrival in a small town of the protagonist, Chichikov, and his strange money-making scheme. Spring 71 is a play about the Paris Commune, using symbolic interludes to cover the subject’s historical background. These two translations were commissioned by BBC Radio in the 1960’s.
