'A Life For a Love' is a tale that begins with two sisters who are dealing with their brother's upcoming wedding to Valentine Paget.

Lilias is struggling with the idea of her brother leaving to become a clergyman in London and wishes he didn't have to go.

Marjory tries to console her, but Lilias is inconsolable. Despite the tension, there is a sense of love and support between the sisters, which makes this story a touching and enjoyable read.

"The time was July, and the roses were out in great profusion in the rectory garden. The garden was large, somewhat untidily kept, but it abounded in all sweet old-fashioned flowers; there was the invariable tennis-court, empty just now, and a sweet sound of children laughing and playing together, in a hay-field near by.
