The freedom was to be able to do what he wanted to do and when he wanted to do it - free from social and cultural constraints. Nicc explores many trials and tribulations of travelling on a shoestring budget. These included an interesting hitch-hiking episode, being mistaken for a secret service agent and his sleepless night in an elevator maintenance room with its resident rats. Through his eyes, you can experience his own quirky sense of humour, as he starts in Tel Aviv and aimlessly potters about until he ends up on what was formerly known as the Greek/Yugoslavian border, about to cross into Macedonia ... Nicc introduces an interactive element by asking the reader to do some on-line research here and there. This is obviously strictly optional but it's well worth doing.
