This book analyses how the country changed from the austerity of the 1940's to the affluence of the 1950's. The Labour Party after winning the 1945 General Election by a landslide had to endure opposition just six years later. The 1950's saw the Conservatives win three General Elections in a row, the country was breaking free from controls and now the nation was starting to enjoy prosperity for the first time. Labour in opposition were heavily divided between those who followed Nye Bevan's call for greater public ownership and Hugh Gaitskell who was ready to accept affluence. Hugh Gaitskell worked tirelessly to find ways of competing with the Conservative Government. Stephen Killick, delves into Labour Party divisions from 1951-1964 and into Harold Wilson's ascent after Hugh Gaitskell's sudden demise in 1963. Stephen Killick, a Politics graduate, compiled over a hundred books' worth of research for this insightful work. His second book that he is writing chronicles his political journey from left to center-right ideology.

Stephen Killick, who is a sports enthusiast is advocating for improved disabled access. As a wheelchair user, he can see where stadiums need to improve in order to make disabled people have better comfort and access to better viewing areas that the able bodied public enjoy. He cherishes Britain's countryside, and enjoys holidays in Cornwall and Kent. With an optimistic outlook, he believes in equal opportunities and the power of hard work to overcome obstacles to achieve their lifelong dreams.
