In the last years of the war, Tom, a young Irishman, discovered that the IRA were smuggling Nazi soldiers into southern Ireland.

He made his choice and betrayed them to the British army.

But these IRA lads were his friends from school days. They were not prepared to forgive this betrayal.

They tracked him down, captured and tortured him.

He was rescued by the British army and hidden away in a Welsh wood, where Laurel discovered him.

She was a wild child, aged 17, but a wise one.

She breaks into his hiding place and becomes his saviour.
