In his late twenties, James finds his financial security and career as a photographer have conspired to shelter him from becoming close to his fellow human beings. He feels he should share more, but isn't sure how. Others would provide the catalyst.
His salvation begins when he examines his late father's effects and these arouse memories of a childhood in Kenya where sharing was common place.
Coincidentally, he is given an assignment in Kenya with a fellow professional, Pete, who is willing to share his own very different life. In Kenya a voice from the past provides a dramatic opportunity to engage.
Back in the UK, a superficial affair with a woman colleague blossoms into a more intense relationship.
Pete and James are given an assignment covering the millennium and James takes the opportunity to engage with his near neighbours.
Alongside this project comes a dangerous engagement with Kenyan politics and an uncomfortable relationship with another office colleague.
Through these links James finds himself more engaged with the world. Will his newfound contacts encourage James to become a more rounded human being?
