‘I am insanely in love with George Cross, a perfect detective for our time and for all time’ Stephen Fry A man with no past. A case with no leads.
The Benedictine monks of St Eustace’s Monastery in Somerset are used to a quiet life of contemplation and prayer, sustained by their work as bookbinders and beekeepers. So it is completely shocking when one of the monks is found savagely beaten to death in a woodland near Bristol. Nothing is known about Brother Dominic’s past before he entered the monastery. It is precisely the kind of case at which DS George Cross excels.
As soon as Cross arrives at the monastery, he tunes in to the enviable silence and the regular routine of the monks’ lives. If only he believed in God, it would be the perfect place to live. Then, to the frustration of Avon and Somerset Police, he becomes obsessed with restoring the ancient organ in the Abbey church. It seems to his colleagues that the investigation has been forgotten.
But they of all people should know that George Cross - seeker of truth and justice; painstaking solver of the most puzzling of crimes - is never to be underestimated…
The Monk is part of the DS George Cross sequence of thrillers, which can be read in any order.
‘Sullivan has given us a British detective for the 21st century who will be hard to forget’ Daily Mail
