The suspicious death of an Army veteran fallen on hard times at his run down, isolated home in the Derbyshire village of Brockley leads Detective Chief Inspector Allan "Sniffer" Clarke of Leverton CID to suspect foul play, but in doing so he is also reminded of the rape and murder of a young girl thirty years previously AND in the same community. Are the two connected?

Divorcee and Pink Floyd fan Clarke also has to cope with a vain, power hungry Superintendent who dyes his hair and wants results - quick! Worse still for the embittered and embattled Chief Inspector, he is saddled with a young female Detective Sergeant who wants to run before she can walk and who thinks that her new boss is a misogynist!

Set in the fictional Derbyshire town of Leverton and nearby communities that were once part of the South East Derbyshire coalfield, Speak To Me! is the first in a series of novels featuring wildlife and nature enthusiast, DCI Clarke, and his love of music from the sixties and seventies, or what he refers to as "The Golden Era".
