Brief Candles is a collection of poems by Brian Chaplin (December 1930-August 2021) - they are reflections of his life at various stages. There are memories of his experience growing up during the Second World War and, in particular, in London during The Blitz. There are other memories of his childhood - one poignant one, the memory of his younger sister being born when he was three and passing away from cot death after three days.

Brian recalls his time in National Service and the Territorial Army.

There are love poems written for his beloved wife and several reflections on his role as a father and the importance of family to him.

Finally, there are observations of things in everyday life.

Brian was always curious and interested in others. He had compassion and empathy, and this is reflected in his writing.
