Going Home

Paul Philip Studer

A large van turned into Thirsk High Street. From nowhere, a pig ran out across the road right in front of the van. Alo, the driver swerved to avoid the pig. The van tipped onto its side and crashed into the Nationwide Building Society.

Alo ended up in hospital with a broken leg, a broken arm and a bandaged head. Lucy wrote to Alo's mum and dad in the Grand Canyon. Alo's mum wrote to him in hospital telling him to come home and that she would look after him. He hadn't been home since he was 17 years old, when he'd left in the middle of the night to join the festival circuit.

Alo has a girlfriend called Irene Burns, Managing Director of Burns Construction. She flies out to see him in the Grand Canyon. She hires a Learjet for the trip. Irene never thought she would marry: she was married to her job. But leaving Alo to go back to work on Monday was becoming increasingly difficult. Maybe the impossible was going to happen. Maybe she would marry Alo.
