Trina Turk

This first-ever monograph on the Trina Turk aesthetic will celebrate her distinctive patterns and sensibility that include her clothing designs for women; the Mr. Turk line of clothing for men; her home goods; architecturally significant homes she has restored; her distinctly designed retail stores; and her personal vintage collection of clothes, jewellery, furniture, and objects.

Based in Los Angeles with 13 retail stores across the country each uniquely designed by the likes of Kelly Wearstler and Jonathan Adler, Trina Turk has a vision that extends to the interior design of these boutique environments, and they are all included here. Additionally, Turk’s passion for restoring mid-century design will be shared in the extensive restorations she has accomplished on four architecturally significant homes in California. These include one in Palm Springs, one in Silver Lake, one in Echo Park by mid-century icon John Lautner (recently restored by architect Barbara Bestor), and her own never-before-published home in Sea Ranch, also renovated by Bestor.

The book features an introductory essay by Turk about how she and her late husband Jonathan Skow first started the brand and includes photos of design and lifestyle inspiration by Slim Aarons, as well as first looks at photos of some of Trina’s extensive personal collection of vintage clothing. Additional essays by Booth Moore, Barbara Bestor, and Simon Doonan each provide insight on a specific aspect of Trina Turk, the designer, and her eponymous brand.
