John first met Cynthia while studying African culture as a precursor to his calling to serve God in the Democratic Republic of Congo. When he met her again whilst finishing his studies in Brussels, he believed she was truly a gift from God.
They married and travelled to the DRC together. However, the honeymoon didn’t go to plan and when their marriage wasn’t consummated for five months, he realised there was a fundamental problem. John was a man of God and high morals, but he was confused by years of rejection and temptation all around him. Knowing that the end of his marriage also meant the end of his career, John very reluctantly asked Cynthia to leave him despite the grave consequences…
