A well-researched and illustrated book documenting the enormous impact a quiet country village school had on the surrounding rural community.Bancyfelin is a small village in the heart of West Wales in an area rich in culture and history. For centuries the surrounding area has played an important role in the education of young people. Through the generosity of local benefactor Madam Bridget Bevan of Derllys Court, the Welsh charity schools and circulating schools, between a third and a half of the population of Wales were taught to read during the 18th century. However, it wasn’t until 1872 that there was a permanent school building present in Bancyfelin. Carefully curated by Trefina Jones, A History of Bancyfelin School 1872 to 2022 provides a detailed snapshot of the history of the school throughout the last 150 years, brought to life through the diligent work of local historian Mr Bruce Wallace and illustrated with memories and photographs of the staff and pupils, both past and present.
