‘The Family’ continues the story of Maureen’s life living in Walthamstow now as a wife and mother. Their first son Kevin was born 18 months after their wedding. Then in 1965, three months after the birth of their second son Trevor, the family moved to a brand new Council Maisonette in Bisterne Avenue Upper Walthamstow. One Christmas the Salvation Army visited Bisterne Avenue where they lived and were playing Christmas carols. Maureen and her husband Roy were enjoying the music, when suddenly they heard voices singing loudly ‘knees up Mother Brown - your drawers are falling down’. Recognizing the voices, they immediately went upstairs into one of the boy’s room where they saw two little bums sticking up and the two boys were hanging out of the window giving a loud rendering of the old song. Needless to say this was soon curtailed by a sharp smack on both their backsides.
