Originally published in 1912 as part of the valued Pall Mall Series’ of military text books, works that are now regarded as classics of military theory. Intended for serious or professional students of military history.
This is a classic textbook that was used used to guide the young pre-Great War officer cadet through complicated tactical problems, exposure to field orders, and develop a good grasp of tactical principles. Major-General Griepenkerl, commandant of the Prussian fortress of Thorn, devised and published his first edition of this important work in 1890 to provide German Officers an aid to tactics and orders. Describes military orders including marches, quartering, protection of a convoy, retreats, attacks, advance guards, and outpost operations. Usefully when translated to English the imaginary forces were considered to be organised along British lines.
