Very little changes as the seasons go by, until Anthony Hawton, long-lost son of the local farmer, returns from Australia to visit the village of his birth. His plans change when he encounters Joy Taylor, a pretty teacher at the village school… Christine Thorpe, an Englishwoman now living and working in Australia, began to write Fairfield Gardens during her recovery from illness. As the story developed and the characters became more and more real, she decided to publish it as a novel
