Eureka, A Prose Poem is over 40,000 words in length and it is not a poem! It was Poe’s last major work and was based on a lecture Poe presented in 1848, titled On The Cosmography of the Universe . He had hoped for an audience of hundreds and that the proceeds of the lecture would pay for his new journal The Stylus . However, only 60 attended and they went away confused.
