Alerthon has just turned seven years old, and his life is about to change. Every year during the winter solstice, the seven-year-old Fuzzywinkles are chosen to receive one of four gifts from the Great Spirits: Air, Fire, Water, or Earth.

This time, it's Alerthon's turn.

Alerthon doesn't care much about which gift he gets, only that he gets one at all. But the more he tries to contact the Great Spirits, the more hope seems lost. As the winter solstice inches closer, Alerthon must prepare to face the truth. Will he receive a gift, or will he be left Giftless forever?
