Inspired by a true story. Still reeling from the loss of her beloved mother, Kanata makes the long journey with the large Woodhaven family from Saskatchewan to northern British Columbia. Each family member will have their hearts tested, and out of necessity be forced to make sacrifices as they set out to tame this wild land, forge a new path and make the wilderness a home. In this first story, of a 7 book middle grade fiction series, Kanata must face her fears of abandonment and rejection to somehow find her place among strangers in the Woodhaven family and the small community of Red Maple Creek.
