A mildly amusing story of fatherhood, mental health, found family, and begrudgingly saving the day.
Jock is not a hero. He's a magicless human who gets a cramp in his back each time he wipes his arse. But who wants to be magical and ride around on condescending pegasi anyway? They don't have seat belts, you get a mouth full of flies, the turbulence sucks, and the death toll is horrendous. Poor Norris died last week; fell off on his way home from bingo.
Instead, Jock is simply epic at being a father to two young daughters, married to a much-loved witch, and working nine to five as a receptionist for an incompetent detective in Hart, a city of magic and adventure, where all races come together to celebrate their brilliance... when they're not stuck in traffic thanks to herds of jackalopes.
Jock's fine. Totally fine.
But then he snaps and finds himself almost stepping in front of a bubblepede to end his life.
No longer able to hide his dismal mental health, his wife encourages him to go camping with their four-year-old daughter, Raia, who's also struggling with the reality of being magicless in a magical world. Collecting an array of fellow outcasts across Harmonia, Jock, Raia and their new friends head out on a journey that won't just help them find their place in a world that pushes them aside, but a journey that'll change Harmonia forever.
