A Beginning to an End

Valarie Dale didn't believe in soulmates. Nor did she believe in teenage love. A girl like her just couldn't. Although deep down she wanted to believe that she'd find the man of her dreams one day-a man who wouldn't judge the number shown on the weight scale or the size of her clothes-she knew that for someone like her, that dream could never come true.

Allowing herself to get lost in her less-than-perfect home life and slowly be swallowed up by her insecurities and self-doubts, Valarie certainly didn't have time to search for the love that her friends raved about anyway. To fill the void that the lack of love left in her life, she became angry and jaded. She buried the jealousy that darkened her heart each time her friends received compliments and she was left behind, slowly convincing herself that she was completely content being all alone. That she was proud of her single status.
