Do you dream of success in life? Do you have the vision to convert your dream into reality? Do you have the skills to achieve your ambition? Having originated from a council estate in the heart of the UK rising to a noted international executive banker after an initial career as a nuclear physicist I know the twists and turns, ups and downs, joys, and sorrows along the way. I attracted great mentors who believed in me, picked me up when I fell, and showed me the way to reach my dreams, developing my own style of successful management in this ever-changing world. If you have the will to reach for your dreams whether running your own business, a club, or any other dream up to executive leadership I hope this book will inspire you with the skills and direction to show you the Way. Noted success is not taught in a classroom. It is a belief in your Dream, your Desire, and your Vision. Only then you will you find the Way to succeed. This book is based on some 35 years of successful executive leadership in one form or another on the international stage with some of the largest banks in the World. Having started my journey to executive leadership at the time the first serious intake of females were attempting to make their claim for recognition, I witnessed why capable candidates failed. The primary failing was not understanding the rules of the game which are mostly gender neutral. Although written to include any gender seeking success, extra layers are added to the process that specifically address unique challenges faced by females. Quality executive leadership, just as in professional sport, is determined on merit, not gender, colour, ethnicity, or religion. Executives earn their place at the table and are required to function as a team each blending their skill set to the benefit of their sponsors. This skill set is a mix of attitude, discipline, knowhow, understanding the rules of the game, and knowing how the game is played. Written as a novel this self-help manual includes the human content which influences performance and prescribes a form of family management techniques developed during my career and proven very successful. Synopsis The year is 1990. The City of London is settling into its post Big Bang era but facing a deep recession. Technology requirements are dominating the corporate construction industry, but the recession will likely change the landscape from debt finance to cash rich developers. Melanie is a 32-year old account manager in the London office of one of leading construction fabrication companies in the UK. Even though she is fast becoming a significant business generator she has been overlooked twice in the space of 2 years for promotion in favour of lesser qualified male candidates in this totally male dominated sector. A critical Director is declared terminally ill. The Chairman offers her the opportunity to fill his boots, but she must move to head office in Derbyshire to learn the business and prove herself capable. She lodges with Sebastian, a formidable senior executive of the most influential bank in the world who has taken early retirement and retreated to Derbyshire to consider his future. He sees her executive potential so agrees to mentor her as far as she can reach. But is she strong enough for the ordeals she must face, the tough choices she must make, and the additional challenges she will face as a woman in a man's world to be accepted as an equal in a male dominated industry? She has just six months to prove herself
