Rustled Feathers

Detectives Joe Gallagher and Fiona Barrows investigate when the director of a local wild bird centre is murdered. During the investigation, exotic birds are discovered in backyards and parks by residents of Cairnsmore, and wildlife enforcement officers from Environment and Climate Change Canada soon join the team to ferret out who is behind the murder and illegal movement of wildlife throughout the region. They suspect the involvement of a homegrown group, but the investigation is forced to widen dramatically with the disappearance of a local environmental biologist with past ties to South America. As they find their way through the weeds of the case, Joe and Fiona begin to understand the larger scope of the operation. They slowly but methodically unravel the shroud of secrecy a wildlife trafficking cartel has used to protect its operation and the identity of its leader, a man motivated by financial gain and revenge who will not stop at murder to maintain his wealth and dominance of the illegal wildlife trade.
