Bookworm and Reefer are informants who assist the New York City Police Department in its search for and apprehension of violent criminals and murderers. Their ability to fit in on the street and walk unnoticed among people with criminal intent has served Detective Salvatore Rossi repeatedly in his quest to rid the city of the worst of the criminal element.

When a serial murderer who calls himself The Swordsman has the city living in fear Detective Rossi reaches out to the extensions of himself to fit into places he can't to identify The Swordsman and aid in bringing him to justice.
