Why are some people blessed with more second chances in life than others?

First, you fall in love, then get married, then…well you know the rest of the rhyme. However, it’s a different tune for the Hamilton family. First, Brian falls in love with Millicent. Then, he asks her to marry him, but Millicent says no and moves away. Brian falls in love again and marries Marianna. They have a daughter, Brianna, and live happily until Marianna and their second child die. Millicent and Brian reconnect and finally wed, have a daughter, Penny, and live to make other people think they are happy together.

Millicent divides her time between climbing the corporate ladder and trying to right the mistake of rejecting Brian’s first marriage proposal twenty years ago. That denial, the death of Brian’s starter wife and son, along with all the painful reminders and doubts are reoccurring chirps Millicent tries to shut up or shoo out of her mind. Silence works in her favor, but Millicent’s drive for picture-perfect causes friction in her marriage, turns her stepdaughter, Brianna, into a rebellious, teenage terror and leaves her mother-in-law, Valerie, screaming, Brian, I told you so! Even Penny prefers confiding in the birds that call the pergola outside her window home than her own mother. When an accident sends the family down a familiar path of sorrow, Millicent receives a bird’s eye view of how being silent or forcing things out of memory doesn’t heal open wounds and can be detrimental to her soul.
